Join us for a workshop on creating stunning natural plant designs on silk and wool! In this ecoprinting workshop (also known as botanical printing), you’ll learn how to collect leaves, plants, and flowers to imprint their images directly onto fibers. Students will explore techniques for crafting beautiful, nature-inspired designs and discover how mordants affect protein fibers. By the end of the session, you’ll take home your own ecoprinted hemmed silk and unhemmed wool scarves, along with the skills to continue ecoprinting using resources from nature. Experience the beauty of this natural and sustainable art form!
Students should bring:
• An empty one gallon water jug to use as weight (can be filled at class)
• Leaves from their area such as oak, maples, rose, hickory, sumac, blackberry, kudzu and
interesting weeds. Fun additional plants (usually store bought) are live eucalyptus and
colorful " flat" flowers such as daises. No thick plants. Dry leaves need to hydrate in
water about 20 minutes.
• Apron
• Notebook and pen (limited videos)
