Through live music, storytelling, and hands-on instrument exploration, participants will discover how generations of musicians carried their histories, communities, and traditions through song.
Travel through the musical influences of Native American, African, Gullah, Appalachian, Piedmont, and European cultures while hearing instruments such as the fiddle, banjo, lap dulcimer, guitar, harmonica, Native American flute, penny whistle, washboard, drums, bones, spoons, and more.
From West African and Gullah rhythms to Piedmont blues, Appalachian fiddle tunes, Scotch-Irish melodies, and English folk songs, this interactive program reveals the connections between America’s traditional music and many of the sounds we recognize today.
Participants will leave with a deeper appreciation for the people, instruments, and cultural traditions that make American roots music so rich and enduring.
