Our First Farm Structure: A Goat Barn with Heart, Heritage, and a bit of Flair
by Erika Rogers
Exciting progress on the farm!
There’s something unforgettable about watching the first farm structure rise on a blank canvas of land — especially when that land is destined to become a gathering place of connection, a place to take root in heritage and leave a legacy for generations to come.
At The Heritage Farm at Stevens Creek, the very first building is nearly complete… and it’s not just any barn. It’s a goat barn — but with a twist. Think arched doors, custom trim, and European-inspired details you don’t typically find on a working farm. This isn’t just a shelter for our Angoras; it’s a statement of intention, a celebration of design, and a reflection of what this land means to me.
With a background in art & design, I’ve always had a passion for creating beautiful spaces — a passion passed down to me by my father, an incredible carpenter whose love for building and craftsmanship has shaped so much of who I am. Having him involved in this project means the world to me. You’ll see his hands — and heart — in so many custom touches throughout the farm. From hand-built trim to special architectural flourishes, he’s bringing his magic to the details in ways only he can.
Construction is underway in the livestock field.
And I’m not the only one pouring love into this place. My husband, Met, is a true jack-of-all-trades and will have his hands in quite a few projects on the farm. Whether it's helping with construction, or making things run behind the scenes, or pulling a MacGyver, he's constantly jumping in wherever needed. I’m so lucky to have such talented men in my life.
Even our four-year-old son, Eli, gets to be hands on — he helped us when we laid out the footprint of the barn, tiny boots planted firmly in the red clay, already claiming his place in this legacy. Knowing that he’s growing up surrounded by this work, this dream, this dirt — it’s something we are going to treasure forever.
This barn is just the beginning. Throughout the farm, you’ll see thoughtful architectural details that speak to both form and function — classic white structures with board and batten siding, warm cedar shake accents, crisp metal roofing, and touches of aged copper that will patina beautifully over time. And perhaps my favorite detail of all? Our signature gothic arches — a nod to old-world craftsmanship and timeless design.
These elements aren’t just aesthetic; they’re intentional. They’re about creating a place where people feel inspired, grounded, and welcomed — where nature and beauty meet.
The Heritage Farm is a true passion project. It’s where my creative energy, love for animals, and desire to share the peace of nature all come together. It’s a place I hope will become a gathering place for families, friends, and future generations.
Someday, we’ll pass this land and this legacy down. But for now, I’m savoring every milestone — starting from the very beginning.
